Not really a recurring post but more a very occasional one reserved for the...what's that word? Now what would the great Chris Taylor call this? Ah that's right 'Alternate Opinions'. Now Star Wars recently turned 30, so I decided to write this up. And let's face it, every now and then you'll find a person who doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut. Found this little rant in the Opinions section of the Newspaper. Full credits goes to Daily Telegraph as well as the person who wrote this for making this possible.
Rantings here
What sensitive children are the Star Wars people, judging by Garth Dunn (Letters, May 30). If we know the Bible throughly then we know that just about all the major themes of the Stars Wars films have been taken, pilfered and stolen from God's word by writers with nothing original to say.
The 'force' is a stolen concept. The real, true power in life is the Holy Spirit.
Satan has a counterfeit for everything that is good.
The "force" is his counterfeit put into film (sorry Star Wars children, it's true)
It's all plagiarism
A Big Emo Seer (due to copyright, privacy and shit like that. The person's name will be withheld and replaced by an anagram of his name)
Yes thank you ABES, thank you for your preaching on Lucas movies. However I do wonder if you ever paid attention in English class. Well now fellow Star wars fans, say it with me now...
It's called a Biblical Allusion!!!
Besides if religion can be plagiarised and vice versa, the Star Wars company would have sued Scientology's ass by now. They have their own 'Galactic Empire' and a 'Dark Lord'. As for originality in writing, Star Wars can be questioned somewhat since the Sith is pretty much their version of a 'Dark Lord', but plagiarism?. I think you can see the laughable factor behind that. I really feel sorry for the Christian community when their fellows decide they have to go on a rant spree without thinking and make them look like idiots.
Onto Miss Universe. Now Miss Universe was recently shown over here at a very delayed time. (10:30-12:30 EST) Thanks to Channel 7, I had another one of those nights. And the sad thing? I didn't see the part I wanted to see. Also apparently one of the contestants wanted to help out AIDS awareness. Now while this is an honorable cause, it still made me wonder. What exactly does walking around in a bikini or gown have to do with AIDS??!!
Although I pretty much decided to tune in at that late time to watch one thing-the swimsuit contest. Even though I still don't really get it, Miss Universe is some really good eye candy suitable for Jiraiya's eyes. Though there are a few things that need to be said about this pagaent
1. The Wait: I'm sure most Australians who decided to tune it, are males who just wanted to see the good bit. The Swimsuit part. But no, instead of getting to the good bit right away, the show makes us wait and pisses us off with thos annoying breaks.
2. The time: I don't see the freaking point of showing the contest, if you're going to put it on at that late a time. Channel Seven. That just shows your lack of faith (which I find disturbing). So if you're not going to put it on at a more healthy time, don't buy the rights to it!!
3. It's rigged: Does anyone wonder why Miss USA almost always makes it to the final? Why? Cause it's rigged. Is it coincidental that the organisations just so happens to be based in America? And let's face it, the favourites always win. If it wasn't rigged Miss Australia should have made it to the Swimsuit contest
4. Judges: Not so much to say here. But read on the wikipedia article that James Kyson Lee was one of the judges. In case you don't know, Lee plays that horny Japanese 'Ando' who happens to be Hiro's friend and work colleague. And personally I find it bemusing that an actor who plays a horny person is one of the person judging the contest. And at the same time, I do wonder if Actors know what to look for when it comes to judging compared to the likes of the 2 former Miss Universes.
