It has finally begun...

The Beijing Olympic Torch Relay.
If you don’t know already, the slogan of this relay is ‘Light the Passion, Share the Dream’ (点燃激情传递梦想). And the relay has been labeled a Journey of Harmony.

There was one minor indiscretion. But besides that the day went relatively smoothly and as a result, security will be tightened up for the relay. For more information regarding the route of the relay check here and here for more details. For more details regarding the ceremony of the torch-lighting, click here. And here below is a thorough map of the Greek route.

And just for a psyche out, it should be noted that here in Oz, we are gearing up to own the world in swimming. And Libby Lenton (sorry Trickett) is also ready for Beijing and the challenges. Also Aus is also doing it’s best in the anti-boycott activities. Although Meares is uneasy about her selection in the Olympics. Whilst on the topic of swimming, there seems to be controversy over the swimsuit design.

Over in Canada, opposition to this boycott has also come from a Mayor and the majority of the Canadian citizens. Curiously enough, an exhibition of Olympic photos was open in Singapore at the same time the Torch fire was lit. Aamir Khan, an employee of Coca Cola (sponsor of the Olympics) will also be sharing the dream as he participates in the relay.

Also, a lottery has been held in the name of the Olympics. This also looks to be a high-tech Olympics with the incorporation of several new techno gizmos. It could be seen as a technology Olympics as air conditioner sales have risen dramatically. Russia has rose to the challenge of the Olympics as well, winning a shitload of medals. Speaking of confidence, check this article out. On a curious note, broadcast of Tiananmen Square will not be shown.
