1 month till the beginning of the Olympic Torch Relay

Feb 25, 2008 12:00

That's right 1 month till the beginning of the Olympic Torch Relay which will take place on the 25th of March and 165 days to go. We're almost there!

And here is more news...

Starting from March, China will only be selling 'China Standard IV' and according to news the residents of the demolished houses that were taken down for the Olympics are now comfortably resettled. Also Jay Chou will be eventually writing a song for the Olympics. And also of note, a British secretary has decided to oppose the boycott of the Olympics and Bush has decided not to join in as well. Steven Spielberg however has decided to step down from his participation in the Olympics as a result of ongoing issues in Sudan though IOC President Juan Samaranch is dismissing this boycott as well. Interestingly enough, a Chinese Ambassador will be running in the London leg of the Torch Relay. Beijing is also in the process of training more chefs for the eventual coming of the Olympics. On the topic of food, US has decided to bring in their own food for fear of dodgy Chinese food.

Also Beijing has decided build up energy stockpiles whilst Tianjin has also joined in the fight on air pollution. And apparently, Beijing has also decided to clamp down on tourist who want to take pictures of the 'Bird's Nest'.  Though is it too late to get to the Olympics? According to this article, the answer is no. And finally despite the problems, 3 of the Directors who are directing promotional films for the Olympics have defended their roles.

    The Torch

The Olympic Torch is based on traditional scrolls and uses a traditional Chinese design known as "Lucky Cloud". The torch is designed to remain lit in 65 kilometer-an-hour winds, and in rain of up to 50 millimeters-an-hour. It is designed by a team from Lenovo Group.

The Torch is designed in reference to the traditional Chinese concept of the 5 elements that make up the entire universe. The 5 elements include: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth.
