As for your other question: in watching Death Note recently, I came to the realization that I FUCKING LOVE MIND GAMES. I love Kaiji as a series because it is so twisted and disturbing and psychological, and I love Kaiji as a character because despite how awful his world is and despite all the things that happen to him, he's still a good person. I wanted to app him because (a) Camp had no fukumoto characters and this needed to be fixed, (b) I thought playing such a straight-man in such a bizarre, off the wall setting would be really entertaining, (c) I wanted to see what happens when he actually makes friends (friends!) and (d) I wanted to app someone with no cast mates in camp, from a series not many people would know, since he was my first character and I was worried what would happen if I apped someone a lot of people knew and loved. ^^; I figured at least if I screwed up with Kaiji, it would be less apparent to everyone else except me. And I'm a contrary kind of person who likes to surprise people, so I wanted to see everyone's reaction to the ugly thick-lines be-mulleted gambler who cries at the drop of a hat and is a total woob FOREVER.
I apped Gant because, as I said, I love mind games, and I love charismatic bastards who are charming and engaging despite the fact that they do awful things. And I figured, if I'm gonna app a second character, I want it to be someone who's as different from Kaiji as possible, and I figured Gant was pretty close. I also wanted someone who could take the weirdness of Camp in stride, which is something Kaiji can most definitely NOT do.
