Gant likes you. He respects you as a fellow lover of law and justice, but he also just thinks you're cute. He's a bit perplexed that you seem to like him so much and has decided that you probably have daddy issues. Gant loves having power over people, even if he never actually has to use it, so the fact that Near seems so dependent on and fond of him pleases him quite a bit. He's used to having intelligent, powerful people do what he tells them, but it's usually not this easy.

Lest he now seem like a complete bastard, though, Gant is also genuinely fond of Near. He enjoys your company and your perspective, and he's really quite touched by how trusting you are with him. And after Near took care of him when he was out of sorts, he likes you more than ever. The thing about Gant, though, is that no matter how much he likes someone, he always likes himself more. So if Near ever became a threat to him, or betraying or using Near would benefit him in a way he found to be worth it, he would do it without hesitation. But he does rather hope that that never has to happen. As I said, he likes you.

Near considers you a friend. I would say that means he likes you, but he has the emotional depth of a kiddie pool, so that word is difficult for him. He likes that you're willing to stand up for yourself and craves the part of you that provides discipline. (wow... I can't NOT make our relationship sound totally kinky and fucked up) Near has parent issues in general because of the whole orphan thing... but he has never had much of an opportunity to deal with them. You make him feel strange because he's not sure WHY you care, but he's at a point now where he isn't so worried because he likes it.

That said, Near isn't above plotting a contingency in case you're really trying to get something from him. Even if a part of him is expecting it, it will still be really hard for him, and he won't be likely to trust ANYONE for a long time. He really does trust Gant right now (or he wouldn't fall asleep around him so much).

On a really pathetic side note, Near tries to get out to the Lawyertarium to see people he knows (he knows quite a few people there, but you're one of the major reasons) about once a day or so. However, he is VERY afraid of Marcy, so he will only go out there if he can follow someone else, and the same with leaving. So he probably gets stranded there overnight from time to time. orz
