Family time rocks!

Wow, what a great weekend with the Goeman side of the family! We went because my grandma was turning 70 and her kids and husband decided to throw her a surprise birthday. Oh, I was excited!

We left Friday morning without Kayla because she had a team basketball tourney in Adrian. It was kinda weird without her. The trip there was fine. We picked up Joel in Downers Grove which was a great treat. I was excited to have him meet my family!

We got to Wisconsin and headed straight to the hall to set up for the party. We decorated a bunch - Joel did a great job of demonstrating his creative ideas with some curling ribbon. He really hit it off with my family right away. After, we went back to the Werner's house for pizza. Joel and Lauren (acid reflux sufferers) partook in apple cider vinegar before eating the pizza. It was quite the task, but fun to watch and seemed to do the trick of curing their ailments. Then we headed to my Uncle Doug's house to sleep. Joel and I watched the last two episodes of The Hills before going to bed, so it was a late night.

Saturday morning was a busy one! All of the cousins came to Doug's house to cut cheese and sausage and make taco dip. Doug prepared an enormous breakfast feast of eggs, pancakes with his homemade maple syrup, sausage on the grill, and bacon. Man, was it delicious! Then we went back to the hall and got ready for the party to start! The party really went well. My grandma was surprised and my grandpa was just beaming all day. He was so excited to get to do this for her! He's so adorable! Joel got to meet my grandparents, lots of distant family that I really don't know that well, and my Great Grandma. They all seemed to like him.

For the party, my mom and I had written a song to the tune of "I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly" about my grandma. Eddie, Grant, and Joel played guitar for it, and it went really well! While practicing for the song, Eddie and Grant started making up new melodies for the lyrics and came up with a great version. We messed around with it so much that by the end, we had two guitars and vocals with harmony added in! We got to sing it at the party which was tons of fun. My grandpa really liked it. My uncle wanted to record it, but we ran out of time.

The party went until about 7. We hung out at my grandparents' house after that with the cousins and three of my grandpa's siblings. Joel and Uncle Eddie had a jam session in my grandparents' living room which was tons of fun. Logan really attached onto Joel. It's actually funny because Joel thought that Logan didn't like him at first. Well, he was totally wrong! It was another late night because Grant, Joel, and I talked for awhile and then Joel and I talked more after that.

The whole family woke up for 8 o'clock church the next morning. Wow, what a time! It was great to all be together though. We ate lunch at my grandparents' house. Uncle Eddie showed us his pictures from his time in Afghanistan and I showed my slide show from Kenya. It was our world traveling time! :) Then it was time to leave. It was sad to say goodbye after such a short time. And it was really great to have Joel there. Joel had quite the influence on little Logan. By the end of the weekend, he had taught him how to treat a girl and even how to pop his collar. Yup, just like my Joel! Logan really liked him. He gave him a big hug goodbye and said that he would see him later. Aww... how cute! Guys with little kids! I love it!

So, then on our way home, we dropped Joel off and about 15 minutes later, we stopped due to brake problems. It was a bit of a struggle, but my parents ended up renting a car and driving home and leaving me with Joel to get the car fixed in the morning and then drive home. So here I am, at Joel's desk, just about to leave. It was nice to have another night with him. He's driving back with me and then taking the train back here tomorrow morning! It was quite the mess, but I must say that I got the best deal in this ordeal! :)

Well, I'm hitting the road back to the D!
