YAY! I'm a Gamma Phi Beta! G-A-M-M-A, Gamma, Gamma Phi Beta!!! That is one of our many crazy cheers that I have learned already! This is how the rest of Recruitment Week went down...
Theme Night was really fun! Gosh, the girls are so creative. They had great skits!!! One of them was more serious, one was totally funny and goofy, one was musical, and one was a beauty pageant!
The next night was Preference Night. I went to two rooms that night for a more serious side of the sorority - their relationships, values, and lives together. Wow, it was amazing to see how much the women of a sorority fit together and mean so much to each other. It definitely made me anxious to make that sort of bond with my future pledge class. It was a moving night. I cried like a baby in Gamma Phi's room. They used the song "True Colors" in it (which always reminds me of Kelsey Ramthun), and it was totally sweet. :) My pref wrote me a really sweet card with characteristics of me on it and then said a really touching sentence to me. Gosh, it was so awesome! I just knew it was the right place for me.
Saturday was Bid Day! We had to go to the Union and stand on our bids until it was announced that we could open them. I was so excited to see my bid from Gamma Phi Beta! And my friend Jessica received a bid from them too!!! All of the future Gamma Phi's ran together, and we hugged each other. Jill taught us some cheers, and then we ran to find the rest of the members by Merlin (a huge tree on campus). We all screamed and hugged and hugged the tree. Gosh, we have such an awesome group of girls. It's going to be a great semester and a great three years together. We did our class cheers (ours is “Gamma Phi Beta” to the tune of Jingle Bells) and took tons of pictures, and then went inside to the Chapter room. There, we learned a bit more about each of the members. I think it’ll take me forever to get all of the names down! Then we went to another place to do some fun games and eat dinner. We played some team bonding games with our pledge classes that were challenging and really fun. Then, I had to leave because I had to work. But it still was a great day!
That night at Candlelight, I had about 20 more people to talk to after the service was over all because of Gamma Phi! Gosh, it was sweet! When I got home, Lindsay and I went crazy and made this sweet video! Ask us to see it sometime because you definitely haven’t lived if you haven’t seen it. It’s just plain awesome.
What a week it was… I’m so glad that I went through it though. I’m so happy to be part of the group.
Today is MLK, Jr. Day, and we have didn’t have school! It was quite sweet. We did have to go to some focus sessions for our CORE class though. They were good actually! I was worried it would be speaker after speaker, but I went to the Convocation with Carl Mack as the speaker and a session called “Indefinable.” The Convocation was great! Carl Mack was an unbelievable speaker. His points were excellent. The focus session was a play directed by Jamie Gieschen (my second cousin)! It was really good and brought up some great points within the discussion afterwards. The rest of the day was relatively low key. It felt so good to just relax.
Here’s some closing thoughts from Carl Mack: “Don’t be prideful, America,” Mack said. “Don’t think that you could never fall.” …”Man’s ability to commit atrocity is only limited by his imagination,” Mack said. “If someone doesn’t put an end to this suicidal thrust in the world today, then we won’t be around much longer.” Good words of warning to our country…
