I am considering attempting NaNoWriMo this year. I came up with a complete plot idea several weeks ago and I've not found the urge to do anything with it yet, as much as I would like to. I'm hoping that NaNo will help inspire that! I don't think I'll have the time and/or energy to do the full 50k word count, I'd be happy just to write a little

Do it!!!! I'm going to be doing nano this year and one of my friends was like, "Let's start nano prep!!!" not long ago.

Have you started the prep? I went through some of the additional resources last night and I think I'm going to do some of the workbook for Week 1 tonight.

I've started prepping a bit! I've been doing some plotting and already have ideas for short stories outside of the book I'm going to write. Ohhh I hope you have fun doing some of the workbook!

I'm not sure! I'm spilling_ink on nano. What's your username? This reminds me that I need to go on and declare I'm doing nano this year LOL.

I've already got my plot sorted, but I need to do some work on the characters. I have to get names for the main ones sorted in advance, otherwise I just spend ages musing over what to call them.

I'm currently debating on names. Names are a big deal to me so I'm very serious about choosing names 😂 OMG I hear you. With me, if I don't decide on a name before I start I keep stopping to be like, this place holder name is vibing man.

Names are a big deal to me too. I use Behind the Name a lot because it has lots of unusual names and shows all the meanings. I also keep lists of names that I've seen and like. Do you use any particular resource for names?

I use Behind the Name too!!!! I'm big on name meanings so I'll make a list of names I like and their meaning because I like to have the name mean something that relates to their personality or the story etc. ngl Behind the Name is probably the best website I've seen but I'll also google names that were popular in previous centuries or a particular decade and look at the popular name/surname lists and then hit up Behind the Name to find the meanings of the names I like.

Same here! Name meanings are super important! I wrote a Harry Potter fanfic where I named a security guard Thatcham :)

I've never looked for popular name lists, but most of my writing is either present day or fantasy so I don't always need older names. I tend to search Behind the Name for a particular meaning and see what names fit from the suggestions.
