motodraconis linked to a questionnaire from the WWF where you can check your carbon footprint (
here if you want to have a go, although it is aimed at the UK.) This is my result:
I'm pleased that it's below the UK average although I was a little surprised that it wasn't lower. The main part of it (43%) is travel, so that will be caused by the fact that I drive to work. I switched from taking the bus because it took over an hour each way so I was finishing work at 2pm but not getting home till around half past 3. My car is only small though and I am looking at getting a hybrid next time. I dread to think how much higher my footprint would be if I was flying to the US twice a year as I used to.
I recycle as much as I possibly can - a lot of that is controlled by what the council will allow - and I'm trying hard to stay away from single use plastic. Our electricity supplier recently switched all their customers onto 100% renewable energy for free which was a surprise. They didn't even mention the change, I happened to find out from
Gizmodo! I don't eat meat as such, just fish, chicken and turkey, and I'm making an effort to have more non-meat meals. I don't often buy new clothes, I just wear my old ones to death, and I get lots of second-hand books and games, so all of that helps. I know I can still do better though!
