The moment when you realise that the person who previously owned the copy of Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen got it for the same reason you did!
I had been after a copy of the first Harry Potter book in German so that I could practise and refresh my German skills. I decided to get one off Bookmooch where it would be free, although it did mean there was quite a long wait as no one wanted to give up their copy. I can't say as I blame them for that though ;) I got a notification a few weeks ago that there was a copy available, bizarrely coming from someone in Italy! I thought it was amusing in itself but when the book arrived this morning, I realised why a German book was coming from Italy.
The book is in amazing condition, it looks like it's barely been read at all. When I opened it to check the pages, I saw that there's some pencil markings on the first couple of pages. So it looks like the Italian was also trying to brush up on their German skills too! If you look carefully at the photo (click on it for a larger image which is clearer), on the second line you'll see the word 'fiero' has been written above 'stolz'. Well, stolz is German for proud, and according to Google translate, fiero means proud in Italian!
I am very amused to think that this book has been owned by two different people in two different countries but both for the same reason. I now get the bonus of the Italian translation too! I also noticed that the pencil marks stop after page 9, I presume the previous owner gave up at that point. I'll have to make sure that I at least make it further than that!
