The new Doctor is going to be revealed after the Wimbledon men's singles final today. That's in about five hours, depending on how long the match takes!
There's been a renewed discussion about whether the new one will be a woman but I would be very surprised if that's the case. Considering the viewing figures for the last two series have been the lowest since the programme came back, I don't think the Powers That Be at Aunty would want to risk them dropping further. Supposedly they want to try and regain the popularity the show had with David Tennant so they want another Tennant-type actor.
Possible contenders appear to be: Kris Marshall, David Harewood, James Norton, Ben Whishaw, Richard Oyoade, Richard Madden, and Reece Shearsmith. If they're going for younger, then James Norton, Ben Whishaw, Richard Oyoade and Richard Madden would seem to be more likely. And if they follow their recent trend of casting people who have already been in the show, then James Norton fits that.
I have absolutely no idea. I wouldn't mind Ben Whishaw or Richard Oyoade - although the latter is the new host of the Crystal Maze so that makes him seem less likely.
