Ohhh, it is far too hot. Summer has decided to forgo the slow build-up and instead turned it up to eleven and gone on from there. We never get the gradual introduction of heat, it often seems to be barely into double figures and then without warning OMG SUN AND IT'S HOTTER THAN THE MED!!!!

Saturday had a high of 24°C. Sunday was warmer still and had barely any breeze, it was about 6mph. It was 23° at half past 7 and still 20° by 9pm! Then yesterday, it was supposed to be 26° but it actually got to 29° instead! And the breeze - such as it was - had dropped to 5mph. It was horrible, so muggy and humid. There were supposed to be thunderstorms too, but none of them materialised. It didn't drop past 18° all night so it started off warm first thing this morning. It's been a little bit better today, slightly less warm, only 24° and with a bit more of a breeze. However tomorrow, it's going back up again. We're looking at 28° with thunderstorms and flash flooding. Whooo....

It is all change by Friday though because it's Glastonbury. The largest greenfield music festival in the world is well-known for its muddy conditions where having wellies is an absolute necessity. The week after that Wimbledon starts, and again, rain is pretty much expected there! I think we might be okay after that. It depends what happens on St Swithin's Day!

If there's anything about the weather in Britain you can count on, it's that it will not last, whatever it is. I saw an interview with Australian comedian Adam Hills a while ago where he mentioned this. He said it had been a nice day and suggested to his British wife that they have a barbecue at the weekend and invite some friends. She just looked at him in amazement and replied there was no guarantee it was still going to be nice the following day, never mind at the weekend. He said it was at that point where he realised how incredibly difficult it is to plan anything when you can't rely on the weather, and also why Brits go mad when the sun comes out because you never know how long it will last!
