I spent the morning at the Toyota dealership this morning following a mystery text I'd got from them last week saying that my car was due some routine work. I was pretty sure it wasn't as it had been serviced in September and MOT'd in October, and that was it sorted until Sept/Oct this year. When I rang to check, I was reminded that when it had been serviced, they'd spotted some corrosion on the brakes and wanted to give them a check to make sure it was all okay. So I'd got it booked in this morning to get that done.

When I arrived, I asked whether it was a common issue and was told that it was and wasn't anything to worry about. That's good because it does rather sound like something I should be concerned by! I was assured that it's easy enough to rectify, they just strim the discs which removes all the corrosion and makes them as good as new again. Sort of like refurbished brakes, I suppose.

They actually gave the whole car a check so it took just over an hour. That was okay, I was happy in the waiting area with the free coffee and WiFi access. The final diagnosis was that the brakes are slightly lipped but nothing major and will be fine until the service in September when they'll sort it out. I was also told that there's a small oil leak from the engine - which was rather news to me as I've not noticed anything on the driveway! They're not sure where it's coming from exactly and as it's so small, it's not worth stripping the whole thing down to find it. That'll be okay till the service at which point I presume they'll investigate it further. I was given a copy of the report so I had a proper look at it when I got home. It actually has a quoted price for the cost of the repairs which is £250 for both. Most of that is for the oil leak because of the labour involved in stripping down the engine. Still pricey though. But at least I've got advance warning about it, that's something. I'm so glad that Toyota are on the ball about this kind of thing; not only did they make a note that there was something that needed checking up on, they actually reminded me about it.
