The Merc with a Mouth has a movie

I went to see Deadpool this afternoon. It's half-term this week and ordinarily I avoid seeing films then because they're usually full of noisy kids who ruin the whole experience for everyone. I didn't think that would be a problem this time because of the assurances that it would be an R rating so I expected it would translate to an 18 here. ( Read more... )

That's interesting that it's a 15 in the UK! To be fair, I would probably let a 15-year-old watch it, though ( ... )

When I heard that it was going to be an R, I thought that would translate to an 18 over here, so I was quite surprised to find it was only a 15. Going off the amount of strong language, the nudity and the sex scenes, that's all quite more than a 15 certificate allows ( ... )

It doesn't surprise me that the movie went for a simpler plot, considering how much difficulty they had in getting it greenlighted in the first place! The execs probably wouldn't be able to understand a plot from the comics at all. Hopefully they'll be able to step it up a bit in the sequel. I didn't know there was a female Wolverine these days either! Comics, man. So hard to keep up with.

I expect the studio didn't want to relinquish one of their most popular and recognizable mutants to a movie they didn't really think would work. Or they couldn't get Hugh Jackman, or something. It would be cool if they could work together sometime in the movies though! I know the next Wolverine movie is supposed to be his last, though.

Thank you for the subtle push toward that website. Bookmarked! :D

That is a good point. I know Fox kept cutting back on the budget they were allowed, as pointed out by DP when he's at the mansion and makes a comment about 'funny how there's this big mansion but we only see two X-Men, almost as if the studio couldn't afford any more...' Some of the comics' plots have been pretty bizarre. There's been at least two where Deadpool has ended up with someone else's conscious in his head - one was a villain and the other was a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Agent Preston. I wouldn't mind seeing her included at some point, she's a larger black woman with a husband and child, it would be nice to see a bit of diversity in there ( ... )

It's very entertaining and certainly enjoyable. It was only later on when I was thinking about the plot that I realised it was just a bog-standard superhero origin one. But hey ho, at least it came in a decent package.

Not sure I'll manage to see it at the cinema with Saskia being out of commission ... *sigh*
