Your updates need updating

Last week I did something I've not done before, I pre-ordered a brand new game for my Playstation. I tend to buy either older games or pre-owned ones because they're far too expensive otherwise. As games are so pricey, if I get a crap one, it's not a great loss to have to trade it back in again. The game in question was the new Lego Marvel Avengers one so I knew it was going to be good, and pre-ordering it from Game meant I'd get a special edition with extra characters and things. I'd found a gift card with £10 on it and I'd got some money for Christmas so I could use those.

The game was released on Friday and I didn't realise it had to be collected within 48 hours. I'd intended on getting it on Tuesday as that's the day I usually do errands and things, but I had to go into town on Friday specially to pick it up.

So there I was nice and early Saturday morning as I expected it would take a bit of time to do all the downloading and everything installed. I put the disc in and immediately got told that the software on the console needed to be updated before the game could be installed. A short while later the software was updated and the console restarted. The game was able to be installed next but I immediately got another message saying that there was a patch for it. Already! Another short while later and the patch had been downloaded and installed. Now I was already to start playing. I started the game and got yet another message that the software on the console needed to be updated before the game could proceed. Are you kidding me? I'd just done that! I quit the game and went into the console settings to see if it would update and sure enough it did. Okay, now surely it must be all updated and ready to play. I opened the game up again and it was all looking good. I had a code to redeem for the extras but although there was a menu option for that, it just said 'coming soon!' and I had to do it through the PlayStation store instead. I quit the game again and opened up the store. Which needed to be updated. Banging my head on the floor at this point, I got the store updated and was able to redeem the code. After that I started the game again and oh my god I was finally able to play it.

So much faffing and so many updates! It took almost an hour to get it all sorted. I now understand why the game came with a special edition Lego Iron Man minifig. It was to give me something to play with while all the installing and updating was being done!

whoops there i go spending money again, geeking about games
