I'd been thinking the past day or two that so far, I've not really done a single thing I wanted to do over the summer. It was mostly catching up on all the stuff I'd not had chance to do the rest of the year, such as write book reviews for all the books I've read this year, back up all my stuff and, most importantly, upgrade my laptop to Precious Penguin or whatever Ubuntu 12.04 is called. I've had a serious case of CBA this week though for some reason which isn't like me at all.
And now I have received an envelope from college - I thought it might be about the return date next year but actually it turned out to be the brief for a summer project. It's all presented as the other briefs have been which makes me wonder if it's going to be marked and go towards our final grades. It sounds like a fairly extensive project either way.
The brief is to invent a perfume or aftershave brand, devising a labelled bottle container with accompanying package for sale. And to produce a magazine advert for the brand and a storyboard for a TV advertisement campaign. We have 7 weeks in total and the final outcomes are:
- at least 2 x A3 sheets of research
- 10 x A3 sketches of bottle designs in colour with brand labels and packaging
- 1 full size magazine advert spread with text (and preliminary sketch layout ideas)
- 10 x A5 TV storyboard advertisement sketches with text/dialogue
That's a lot of work! And it's all to be done with no advice or assistance from anyone. I think the worst thing is that I'm pretty sure I will go all out to do as best a job as I possibly can, while no one else on the course will do anywhere near as much. That's if they even bother to do any of it at all.
