Geek night

Jul 14, 2011 20:47

It's currently 8.45pm. In 15 minutes, I will be watching the first of the new series of Torchwood: Miracle Day. Then later on, I will be going out to the pictures for a midnight screening of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Like I said to ftmichael last night (and posted on Facebook/Google+ earlier on today), it's the one where no one dies followed by the one where everyone dies. It's a very exciting night!

It's also going to be a very sad night too with this being the last Harry Potter film. I'm pretty sure I saw the first Harry Potter film on the opening night, although not at a midnight screening because I don't think there was one at my local cinema. I didn't see any of the others on the opening weekend because it was just too busy so it's kind of nice that I'm seeing the last one when it opens to echo how it started. I've not been able to do any midnight release stuff for any of the books so I'm very much looking forward to this one.

I've wondering if there will be anyone dressed up. I doubt there will be - I saw a midnight screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at this same cinema and no one had dressed up for that - so I don't think it's something that people round here do. I've been considering wearing my Slytherin scarf, although it is July (and has been v warm today) because I don't really have anything else that I can wear. I will feel silly if I'm the only one but it will be a shame if no one else makes an effort. It feels like it needs something special, so that it can go out with some ceremony. I'm sure some of you can appreciate that, it'll have been a significant part of all of our lives over the last 14 years and I know that without it, I would never have got to know some of you. Never underestimate the power of the written word, it really does bring people together.
