Geeks win.

Sometimes being a geek really pays off. I had to go for an interview dealy thing this afternoon for a prospective new temp placement. It started off with the manager introducing the organisation, the departments and what the role would be. The main part of the job was taking phone calls and logging them on the system but she also said that one of the 4 that they'd be taking on would mostly be focused on doing something called ODRM which involved scanning in documents. After that we had to be shown the system so we were taken off in twos and I was in the first pair. The system itself seemed really straightforward and not all that difficult to get your head around. I think the person who was showing it to me was a little impressed with the speed at which I'd picked it up. While the others were being shown the system, we were all standing around chatting and asking questions so I asked the manager more about this ODRM business. When she explained what it involved, I said that I'd thought it sounded interesting and then added, "Oh, I'm such a geek." Finally we had to do the mock phone call which I didn't think I did too badly even though I don't like talking on the phone in that kind of situation, never mind when it's just a customer ringing up. After that, we were told that the manager would be in touch with the agency in the next hour - so sometime before 5pm and then they'd get in touch to let us know if we were one of the lucky 4 out of the 6 people there.

At 4.45pm, I was on my way back home when my phone rang so I had to pull over to answer it. It came up as a mobile which I thought was a bit odd, but it turned out to be Adecco anyway. Apparently, the manager thought I was fantastic so she definitely wants me for the placement. Also, she thought my IT skills were top notch so she wants me to do the scanning bit. Hee. I love how that's worked out. So, I get to start on Tuesday and it goes through to the end of March. I can't help but wonder who the other 3 are going to be. Oh, and also, the dress code is smart casual so you don't have to wear a tie if you don't want to and jeans are allowed if they're not ripped and dirty and T-shirts are also allowed provided they don't have a big logo thing on the front. Brilliant.
