Last night, I was busy doing various online stuffs, when I got an urgent IM from
Michael telling me to download the podcast for Friday's Hometime Show and listen to the poddication at the end. The Hometime Show is done by Geoff Lloyd, our favourite DJ on
Absolute Radio and on every podcast, he does a couple of dedications (hence poddication) for whoever writes in. I was a little bemused but I downloaded it and listened as I was told. And this is what I heard:
"The poddication comes from Michael who says, 'I sent you a postcard a week or two ago' - I've got the postcard here - 'and the postcard itself is from Blackpool, I think but I sent it from Bolton where I was staying. I tend to be long-winded when I write, so I ran out of room before I could ask for a poddication. I mentioned in the postcard that I was in England visiting my wonderful boyfriend, Nathaniel, as I live in Boston in America. We're in a very long distance relationship. His birthday is on the 6th of March and a poddication on that day would make him smile. If the backlog is too great for us to squeeze in on the 6th of March for his birthday, then our third anniversary is on the 27th of March so could you do it for then? Tell him I love him and miss him loads, and I wish I could be with him on such a special day, both of them, and I can't wait to see him again when he comes over to Boston in the autumn. I also wanted to ask, seeing as how I sent you a proper postcard, if could you send him a Geoff Show badge. I got one for myself a while ago, but he doesn't have one and I can tell that he's really jealous. I'd love it for it to just turn up in the post as a surprise.'"
At this point, Geoff asks Annabel one of the team on his show if maybe he shouldn't have read that bit out, but Annabel - who makes the badges - says that it's not going to happen anyway so it doesn't matter. Geoff goes on to say, "So this is Michael and Nathaniel, they've got this lovely long distance relationship and they don't see each other very often. It looks like it's going to be maybe 6 months. Maybe longer!" Annabel said, "I'll tell you what, send me the address and I'll send him a lovely surprise. I'm not saying what it is, but it will be a surprise."
Geoff went on to read out Michael's postcard too, so the entire poddication was all for him! There must not have been anyone else after one that day. I was most amused when Geoff got to the end of the postcard and read the reminder that Michael had put about him being the one who sent in the Seinfeld shirt, so both Geoff and Annabel went "Oh, that Michael!" Hehehehe. He's getting notorious.
I was most surprised! I had no idea that Michael had written in at all - obviously - and I was very pleased. I'm all excited now about getting a surprise from Annabel but I'll have to wait for that. It was just a lovely thing to do and about the only radio dedication I've ever had, I think. It was about the best anniversary present ever.
