I have mixed feelings about Google Map's new
Street View feature. On the one hand there's the Big Brother/privacy/burglars 'casing the joint' from the safety and comfort of their living rooms argument(s). On the other hand.... well, on the other hand, I just virtually walked the same route
Michael and I take every Sunday morning to go to
Dunkies for breakfast. I've visited our
Friendly's and
Gamestop and the local park. The sight of the house alone on it was enough to make me a little verklempt. Annoyingly the telegraph pole at the end of the drive blocked the view of the garage so I couldn't see if Michael was in or not...
The entire neighbourhood has been done so I can wander all over it to my heart's content and it's almost like being back there. Well, not really. But it's the best option I have to walk up and down the street that I'm currently over 3,000 miles away from. So, yeah, Big Brother/privacy/high-tech burglars aside, it's another way that technology helps those of us in long distance relationships - or anyone else who may be away from the places and people they love - to see them again.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take the T to Quincy Market and hang around there for a while.
I really need to get a Boston icon sorted out. Finally made a very quick Boston icon!
