Of boys and their toys

I had an interesting weekend.

Friday night, I logged onto Gaydar. They're doing something called the Gaydar Sex Factor. It's "a new, fun feature which allows you to nominate and vote for your favourite guys on the site - or to enter yourself. We have chosen Sex Factor Categories and the Top 10 guys in each category will updated as people vote. Then every month the hottest guys with the most votes will be Sex Factor winners!" It's all pretty much based on looks, but then a lot of gay men are that shallow. Imagine my surprise to find that I got nominated. For a laugh I accepted the entry, put myself in the Guys Next Door category and waited to see what would happen. As of today, I've had 13 votes and my score is pretty low but I'm just amused and flattered by the whole thing. As far as I'm aware, I'm the only transboy on the site (though I know there are several transwomen) so the idea of competing against all these bio males is rather funny.

I had to go to town over the weekend which I really didn't want to do, being the last Saturday before Christmas, but I had to get a last present for Mother as my plan for her gift had fallen through. On the way, I stopped off at my aunt's to drop off some cards. She was asking me how I was and what I was up to, all these questions that I couldn't answer so easily. She knows I'm off work with depression but that's about it. So I ended up coming out to her and she took it really well. I think she'd do better with it than my mother, but hopefully, she'll help my mother cope with things.

Town was horrendous as I knew it would be. However, on the good side, I got called 'son' in Maplins and 'sir' in Millets (okay, that was by my sister but it was still nice). Later on when I ran for the bus, it pulled away just as I got up to it which caused some bloke at the busstop to comment and say "You nearly got it. I think you were ignored though." I just said "Oh yeah." It was one of those 'is he talking to me because he thinks I'm another bloke?' sort of moments. I think it might have been, you don't generally get blokes talking to females they don't know at busstops. Women on the other hand will talk to anyone whether they know them or not.

I'd be looking for a jockstrap in town last time I went in but couldn't find one anywhere. I went into Allsports as a last resort and managed to get one in there. It cost me £8 but at least I got one. I just need to cut the leg straps off and sew it up a bit now. That should be fun, I can't sew for love nor money. The amount of clothes I've ruined just by sewing on a button is unreal.

I got home to discover that my dad had finally caved in and bought us a dvd player. Mother had asked him to because she was struggling buying videos for Christmas presents as it's all dvds now, so videos are hard to get. It had just been left up to me to set it up, which I didn't mind, I'm better with technology than my dad is anyway. Mother said she found it amusing how I could just put something together and know how it works without even bothering to look at the instructions. Instructions?? Heh, I think it's a bloke thing. It took me hour or so but it was a pain in the arse because I had to connect it to the video machine, rather than directly to the tv. As a result, it won't pick up a signal from the tv and if we want to watch a dvd, we have to have the video on as well. There's no point in connecting it any other way yet, because although it's a dvd recorder, we've not got anything to record on. Mind you, we don't have any dvds to play either, I had to call my cousin to see if he had any I could borrow just to check if it was working. He was going round to my aunt's for tea and said he'd take his dvds round there for me to pick up.

I went round after we'd had tea and had a look through the dvds but there wasn't anything I'd want to watch. I ended up playing with my neice Bethany instead. She's 9 months old now and I've not seen her since she was born, so she's pretty big now. She was sitting under the table on her hands and knees, sort of rocking backwards and forwards like she wanted to crawl but was working herself up to it. Apparently she has problems going forwards, but she can go backwards fine! I ended up lying under the table, waving at her and trying to persuade her to come to me. She was attracted by the gold band I wear on my thumb and decided she wanted it enough to crawl to me. I was dead chuffed and of course, everyone was impressed. Yay for me! Later on, she took a liking to my new Red Sox cap so I put it on her head. She'd been a bit wibbly but when I put the cap on her, her face just lit up and she gave me the biggest grin ever. She looked so cute in it, especially when she knocked the peak with her hand and ended up wearing it sideways. When I took it off her, she started crying! Either she just likes wearing caps, or she's the youngest Red Sox fan in the country.

Sunday was a bit quiet. I finished putting up some decorations but we don't put up anywhere near as many as we used to. It's all a bit bah humbug with my parents in that respect, if I had my way, we'd have more up. My mother begrudges putting the tree up sometimes, I think. She leaves it to the last minute before Christmas Eve and as soon as it's anywhere near Twelfth Night, it's down. Oh well. At least Christmas is twelve days. Chanuka is only eight nights :P

We had some snow this morning and I was so excited because it was coming down quite well and starting to stick. After two hours, it had had enough and decided to rain instead. Feh. It's still freezing though. I'm going to go curl up in the front room where the fire is and play with my new dvd player, I think.
