NaNoWriMo 2023

It's the first of November which means it's NaNoWriMo time again! I'm just about to make a start on my writing for the day. Once I've finished doing this post, checking my email, making a cup of tea...

I'm trying to write 50k just in a bunch of stuff rather than one stuff. I've sucked at writing this year tbh

Same here. I wrote a 4,000 word short story back in February for a competition but that's been about it. I've been mostly typing up some of my very first stories so I have digital copies as they're currently only handwritten. It's been quite an eye-opener!

Oh, sooooo cringey! The second one I have is from when I was about 12 and it's pretty much me and a friend getting married to whatever celebrity we were crushing on at the time. There's a few like that, and others where I've just rewritten a favourite film or book with me in it. Super early fanfic!

My friend and I wrote self insert fanfic about two boys we knew who were in a band, when we were like 14/15. They then went on to form The Cribs, so really I was just very ahead of the curve

I imagine a lot of writers wrote self-insert fanfic at some point! You really were ahead of the curve then. That doesn't surprise me, you always seem to be like that for music :)

I didn't even know what fanfic was then!

Neither did I! I think I first became aware of fanfic through the Red Dwarf fan club, people would write RD fics and get printed in the newsletter but I don't think I knew the term 'fanfic' until Harry Potter.
