I meant to do this on the 1st August which apparently was yesterday! I was busy and didn't realise what date it was, so it's a day late.
At the end of June, I did a post asking for people to pick one of the books from my random books folder for me to read. I ended up with the following list of books, listed in order of selection:
The False Princess by Eilis O'Neal
Soul by Tobsha Learner
Matched by Ally Condie
Whatnots & Doodads by Stacey Kennedy
The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman
The Tavernier Stones by Stephen Parrish
Graceling by Kristin Cashore
You Don't Love Me Yet by Jonathan Lethem
I intended to read them in the order they'd been picked, but I've had to adapt it a little as I've not been able to upload The False Princess or Whatnots & Doodads to Play Books. Although I use the Moon Reader+ app on my tablet, I use Play Books on my phone so I can carry on reading even if I'm not at home. I managed to read four books last month which is pretty good. The reviews are all on Goodreads but I gave them the following ratings:
The Invisible Library - 4 stars
The False Princess - 2 stars
Soul - 1 star
Matched - 2 stars
The Invisible Library has been far and away the best one so far. I started You Don't Love Me Yet yesterday because I was out of the house and needed something to read. I am not impressed so far, it's very hipster-ish and the writing style is a bit pretentious. The opening paragraph is "they met at the museum to end it. There, wandering through high barren rooms full of conceptual art, alone on a Thursday afternoon, Lucinda Hoekke and Matthew Plangent felt certain they wouldn't be tempted to do more than talk. Too, driving into the canyon of vacated plazas of downtown Los Angeles felt suitably solemn and irrevocable. The plan was not to sever as friends, or as bandmates, only as lovers."
That third sentence starting with 'too' is very awkward to read. It's as though it's written as a piece of art, not as an actual book. Eugh.
It's not too late to pick a number if you've not done so already. Pick one (1) number at random between 1 and 90 - apart from 7, 14, 28, 31, 42, 63, 76 and 82 which have already been selected - and I'll add it to my list to be read before the end of the year.
