Anti-Virus

I got a letter this morning about my broadband package. One of the benefits that comes with it is free anti-virus software from McAfee. I've been using it for quite a few years now and it's been fine. The letter said that at the end of March, it was going to change from McAfee to Norton.

I'm not overly sure what to think about that. Norton didn't have the best reputation because it took up lots of resources and slowed down computers, giving lots of false positives, and being near impossible to remove. I thought that maybe things had changed recently but apparently last year Norton launched a new feature which enabled cryptocurrency mining as part of its software! That is not the sort of behaviour you want from your anti-virus! I don't think I'll be putting that on my laptop. It seems that the bad reputation it had initially is still valid. Before my broadband package included anti-virus, I used the free one from AVG as I believed that was one of the better ones so I would probably get that again.

It's always so hard to know what anti-virus is reputable and will actually do what it's supposed to do. Any recommendations?
