Done and dusted iced

I have almost finished the Christmas cake. Following the baking back in October, it has been regularly fed with a wee dram or two. They're not desserts, they're just biscuits - cookies in American.

Ah. Cookies are considered desserts here. But also Christmas cake is not a dessert there?

Biscuits are more of a snack item here, the sort of thing you'd have with a cup of tea. Are you using dessert as the name of the sweet course eaten at the end of a meal? Because you could have a cake at that point, but I don't think it would be called a dessert. Desserts are more things like cheesecake, rice pudding, ice cream, sticky toffee pudding, apple pie... Cakes are separate.

Interesting. Basically anything sweet can be considered a dessert here, including cake.

Britain has an amazing range of puddings so those are often eaten at the end of a meal, rather than cake. There's just a small selection of them here.
