armenia

Today I met with my new Armenian tutor and read a book with her. What I love about her: she KICKS MY ASS. If I say բ and mean պ she let's me know. She also kicks my ass on ր and ռ. I like this about her. My old tutor, who was awesome in a different way, always let me slide on my shitty accent. Not Ani. She gives it to me. She is also a double major in biology-chemistry and Spanish, so she knows language learning. She says, if you can't read the word quickly, I want you to write it in your hand. She is even critiquing my Armenian handwriting (yeah, like I write more than my name in Armenian very often, right?... Maybe typing!). She does approve of my cat being named Bachig.

But, we were talking today and I was telling her how I am worried about being lonely in Armenia. She suggested that I get a roommate/housemate. Separate bedrooms and stuff, but someone else in the house to talk to. I think that as it gets nearer, maybe January, I may ask around to see if anyone that I know knows of a young woman who is interested in living on her own with me until December '08. I NEED internet, of course. And I want a bax water heater and a bax air conditioner, which makes me a spoiled American... but I must also say that I have done 5 summers in Armenia without air conditioner and with only 6 hours of water. I DESERVE hot water and air conditioning after those years.

Living with someone else will help the loneliness though. Even though I like being alone. Hmmm... if only the perfect roommate was out there.
