Warnings: Spoilers for Week 1, Day 4 of The World Ends With You
Effects: (optional) Helplessness throughout the whole dream, despair towards the end.
Notes: Italicized words are his thoughts as he watches the dream himself.
The task was easy enough: Head over to Towa Records, no time limit. It was easy enough for a kid to accomplish and Beat didn't even think twice about it either. He was more worried about spicing things up by challenging Shiki and Neku to a race against himself and Rhyme. He was honestly a little disappointed to see that they hadn't been taking it seriously when the pair had caught up. However, that didn't deter his drive to still get ahead of them to the finish line.
Wait, yo. The hell's up with this?
It may have been a small victory but it was a victory nonetheless. "Booya!" he called out, punching the air before turning to call Rhyme over.
H-hey! This ain't funny, man. The Game's over!
He continued watching the scene unfold, feeling helpless even after seeing himself wave at Rhyme as she closed the gap between them. It was then that she suddenly stopped, the smile on her face disappearing only to be replaced by a sudden shock. He may not have seen it back then, but it was all too clear from where he stood now. The telltale noise symbol made its way across the pavement and glowed a bright red beneath him, ready to strike.
Move, yo!
But his warning remained unheeded. His other self was oblivious to what was about to happen.
In an act of total selflessness, Rhyme jumped in front of him and pushed with enough force to knock him backwards and out of harm's way. The noise lunged upward... and just like that, she was gone.
Beat blinked as he sat on the cold ground trying to register the situation all the while staring at lone pendant that remained from his sister.
That ain't fair,yo...
Slowly, he reached over to take the pendant in his hand, handling it with the utmost of care that many may not even believe possible from the boy. It took all his willpower to curb his anger, to curb all his hatred just so he wouldn't crush what seemed to be the last reminder of Rhyme at the time.
That jus' ain't fair!
"RHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYMMME!"
Beat woke up to a start, heaving long hard breaths as he tried to calm himself down. He looked over to the Dreamberry, reaching out to it with the intent of figuring out the filter on the damned device. But just as he extended his arm, he clutched his chest for moment, suddenly unable to shake off the wave of uneasiness that had washed over him.
In an instant he was out of his bed and on his feet, making he way to the room where that Rhyme had occupied in their apartment. He banged on the door once, twice, thrice, calling out for his sister to answer. "Yo, Rhyme! Rhyme, you up?"
Not having heard anything from the other side, he reached for the knob hoping against hope that this all really was a nightmare. That this he was merely over-reacting. That he would find her still tucked in bed, asleep. But that was not the case. Her bed had been untouched and not a single sign that the room had been used remained.
Beat stood at the doorway, dumbfounded and silent. He then slams the side of his fist against the door a few minutes later, choking back a muffled sob. "Rhyme..."
