I haven't felt like doing a food post in a very long while, but now is the time.
Tonight I felt like eating chicken, but didn't want to mess with the whole business of getting in and out of Popeyes, or go through the grocery store to just get one thing. Then I realized that I live one shopping center and a vacant lot away from something called El Pollo Feliz.
It's only been open for a few months here, but I like the chicken that gives you a thumbs-up as their logo, so I decided to give it a shot.
I got a family dinner so that I could have meals later on since I know I'll be working late all this week. That came with 8 pieces of chicken, rice, beans, veggies, and tortillas, plus salsa bar. (It actually came with 3 sides, and those were the three I chose.) Overall, it was really good. The tortillas and chicken and beans were excellent, and the rice was fine. The veggies were obviously from a frozen vegetable medley, but no big deal. Next time I think I'll get the kid's meal because the toys were these kick-ass plastic chickens in different outfits. I'm about to have my own office again, and I think it needs a chicken in a suit.
The only thing that bothers me is that there were about 7 or 8 people working in the kitchen, and I think that two of them were only there to stir this huge vat with what looked like rakes. What the hell were they doing?! The only things on the menu that could be made in a vat are the beans and chicken soup, or possibly french fries (but I saw a regular fry frier,) but why the rakes? How can I get any work done with this unsolved mystery in my neighborhood?
