Feeling pretty pleased with myself

Joanie's turning 40 on Monday. Whoa. Weird. So today, I sat down to figure out what to give her. She's hard to shop for. She's got all the material possessions she needs, and anyway her taste is REALLY particular so it's best if she buys her own stuff. Chocolate, champagne, tea.... yeah, well possibly, but again, she knows her own taste best. So I was sitting here, writing down my thoughts because that helps me think, and it DID. I had an idea! Suddenly I knew what I wanted to get her, and after some Internet research I knew where I could get it, and I went downtown this afternoon and got it. It's wrapped and everything. Mission accomplished!

I am going to tell you what it is, but I have to set it up first. We've pretty much abandoned Joey's this spring and started having our Tuesday lunches at the Happiness Café instead. New decade - new coffee shop, that's us. Wouldn't want to get stale. Now, the Happiness is just a hop from the churchyard where Joanie's sister AM is buried. We often go there after lunch. And we've talked about bringing a thermos and sitting down by the grave and having coffee there, when the weather's nice. It's a really beautiful churchyard, even if there's no bench right there. But I've got this collapsible hunter's stool that's quite comfy, weighs nothing, fits in my purse and can be used anywhere. And Joanie wants one too.

So I bought her one! It's great. It's something I know she wants and hasn't bought for herself. It's something I know no one else is going to give her. And it's even got a special connection with me, the giver. I'm usually rubbish at gift-giving, so I feel really chuffed about this.

Then I had lunch at the new train station, where you can assemble your own salad by pointing at your five most favorite foodstuffs. I had corn, grated carrots, a boiled egg, tuna and red onion rings. Yum! Garlic dressing with that. The day also included a step-up class, a bath and an ice hockey game on TV. And quite a few YouTube episodes of the Luke and Noah story (from As the World Turns) that I've started watching again. There's a new character on the show, a gay version of Dr House. Very promising. :) He's obnoxious in that really irresistible way. The only question is, will he try to steal Noah from Luke or Luke from Noah? Luke and the doctor already have a great hate chemistry going where the sparks are really flying. Oooh, that could work. ;)

And, oh yeah, I fixed a new towel hook in the bathroom. The fact that I'm really pleased with myself for that too, probably tells you way too much about my practical talents...
