Some things just get better with repetition....

Musical skill. Sex. Gentlemen Bastards novels.....

Having just read Red Seas Under Red Skies for the second time, I have to say that it (like The Lies of Locke Lamora) is even better the second time around. Knowing what's coming (vaguely, at a couple of years remove) just dulls the page turning urgency of the novel and lets you really focus on the characters and the interactions thereof.

Just breathtakingly good.

And for some reason I find myself wanting to put them on the same category (but at a higher place of honor) as Andre Norton's Witchworld novels and especially Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover novels. The twin moons, exotic wildlife, Eldren artifacts and strange, maybe psionic magic and semi-magic alchemy just make me think of Locke and Jean's world as a far off  lost colony, thousands of years after even the memory of Earth has faded, living in the ruins of another sentient species we missed by merely a million years or two.

Probably not but hey, it amuses me. :p
