Now that LUE has god knows how many FFXII topics, and how some of my LJ buddies have posts about FFXII, I thought I'd take the time out to make an announcement.
I will not buy FFXII.
My interest in Final Fantasy as a whole has changed signifigantly compared to what it was 6 years ago, when I first played FFVII. After FFVIII and FFIX, I didn't see any signs of stopping for the franchise.
Little did I realize what a train wreck the franchise would soon become, starting with FFX.
FFX was when I came upon something:
Every single FF game storyline since FF7 is a carbon copy of the same formula, over and over again.
There was little that was actually FUN about the games anymore, given that combat was the only way to trick yourself into believing that it was still a video game and not an interactive anime sci-fi/fantasy epic, and it was only a matter of time before even combat became droll, with only the battles against Seymore requiring a level of strategy above a few steps.
Essentially, I was becoming tired of the games. I was insulted by FFX-2, a sequel to an undeserving FF title. When I brought up how I felt about FF, I was lashed upon by the unruly fanbase, where sense and dignity are flush with dogshit. Any form of logical argument pinned to an opinion was spat upon by dumbasses who thought Sephiroth was 'teh gratest badass in FF EVAR' when in reality this long haired, leather wearing faggot would piss his pants in a fight against Kain.
It never ceases to amaze me to see how many assholes think that Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within wasn't a 'real Final Fantasy movie' compared to Advent Children.
Oh, yeah, Advent Children. Yeah, that piece of shit.
Yeah, this is the movie that pretty much struck the nail in the coffin for me. The movie where nobody actually does anything and the secondary characters take a backseat to three 'shadows of Sephiroth' who are after the remains of Jenova for no specified reason. Nothing happens of signifigance, Cloud sulks, Vincent is the only secondary AVALANCHE member that has more than a paragraph of dialogue, and who the fuck is Denzel? In the end, the movie is completely pointless. Cloud is exactly the same person in this movie who he was at the beginning of FFVII, which renders this movie as null and void in terms of canon.
We have a movie that takes place after the game, and we completely ignore character development, one of the foundations of Final Fantasy as a whole?
I've been turned off to Final Fantasy. I'm done with it. So, no FFXII for me.
