Now, for the flipside of being a female gamer.

Once again, hi, my name is Tara and I'm an Everquest addict. I have a level 11 Dark Elf Magician on the Firiona Vie server.

Abbreviations and possibly confusing words for the following text:
EQ = Everquest
FV = Firiona Vie
DE = Dark Elf
House = Clan
Mage = Magician
Drow = DE

If you read my LJ, then you know that my previous posting was about Diablo II being the pre-pubescent male caca-flinging playground. Now read about the light side of the moon.

On FV, roleplaying is preferred. No, I'm not talking about "you're the naughty nurse and I'm the patient that needs a sponge bath", although I have seen similar situations occur there. I'm talking "I'm a DE so I hate you all, and won't hesitate to stab anybody in the back--even member of my own race."

Just like Diablo II, on FV, racism runs rampant. However, the racism and hatred here was pre-built into the game and it's not about real people.

[The storyline (or what may be better termed as a "very loose storyline") explains it, and is available online I believe, but at this hour I don't feel like finding it. I will post it later.]

Politeness and manners are encouraged and sometimes necessary. I haven't heard this many please's and thank you's since my mother was desperately trying to teach me manners when I was 5 years old. (Sorry ma, it didn't work out too well, but it's not your fault, I swear!) People bow before others.

Now, this is not to say that everybody should be trusted and will behave nicely. Remember this is a role-playing server and with forces of "good" would be non-existent without the forces of "evil". But in the very young life of my dear Mage, I have NEVER EVER EVER heard the words fag, stupid jew, bitch, or rape that bitch. EVER! When I grew especially weary of Diablo II, I will switch and play some Everquest. It's a wonderful difference.

Ah, the gender part:

I belong to the house Dark Tormentors. The name sounds evil because, well, we are evilly aligned. Drow, Trolls, any who call upon an evil god or are agnostic yet evil in nature are welcome. But, as it says on our house charter, one can be evil without being a jerk.

Yes, a world in which even the evil have manners. These manners include being absolutely respectful towards females.

It is so cool to walk around the EQ world and have men willing to be gentlemen for you like days of yesteryear. It's simply amazing to me everytime I hear "madam" or "m'lady"! People have bought drinks for me, given me guided tours, and have been generally so nice! When I first started playing EQ, I was extremely shocked and pleased to find out how nice the world was compared to Diablo II. Whenever I messed up on the game and expected to hear sarcastic criticism, I instead heard gentle correction and guidance. Nobody's ever called me a "fucking noob" on EQ. There, "noob" is not an insult--it's a general label for those who are new. ("Noob" is almost the worst insult on Diablo II--next to "fag".)

Sorry, must cut short but I'm getting distracted by the slightest thing, which means I'm extremely tired. Thank you, Dragonclaw, for the suggestions. Please post more. Anybody post more. I'm not terribly confident in my writing skills, but I do enjoy it. :)
