Scrabble club - Oct. 14

Oct 14, 2009 23:52

Went to club for the first time in weeks (because I had been rehearsing for choir concerts - then in Guelph on business). The evening started out great, with a 456-367 win against Patrick. The highlight of the game was when I had the rack BUSTER? and saw a number of openings for BUTTERS, BUTLERS, etc.  But when I looked at the Y on the TWS at O15, I suddenly saw BLUSTERY and played it for 89 points. My other bingo was an early LATEENS (64), and I had some good non-bingo plays, including JERRY and FAGS/STEY/HOT for 39 apiece.

The second game against Chris very close for most of the game. But I never got far enough ahead of him to want to close the bingo lanes - and I should have. The score was 348-323 in my favour when he bingoed out with STUDLIER, enough to give him a comfortable win and 18 points sitting on my rack.  Final score 401-348 in Chris' favour.  I bingoed early with REUNITED (77), but it wasn't enough.

In the last game, I played Deen Hergott, who has a winning record against me. Although each of us bingoed only once -- I had RUTTING (66) and he had OUREBIS (63), he had some sensational power tile plays, incuding JOWLS (62) and DIZENED (42) - Dizen was already on the board.  A rout for Deen - 411-321 in his favour.
