It's been quite some time since I've made any posts. The Navy has kept me quite busy out here in good ole' San Diego. Things are finally starting to wind down now to the point where I actually have some breathing room for things other than work. So, I guess a good place to start would be to update everyone on what's been going on over the past 6 months or so.
In November, I got stationed out here, in San Diego. It was pretty rotten at first. Stuck at TPU (for you civillians, it's like a holding facility for personnel waiting to go to their ships, duty stations, etc) Kelly and the kids were still back in WI, so I was by myself most of the time. All of my items were still in WI as well, so I really didn't have that much to do. I was looking at about a month before the THACH came back and I could report for duty. So, time went on, and my ship finally arrived. I reported aboard the USS THACH FFG-43 Dec 17th. My god, that ship is teeny. I mean, it was the first ship I had ever been on, but compared to some of the other ships in the harbor, this thing was like a tub toy. A crew of about 200, with 30 some odd chiefs and a handful of officers, it had the potential to get very crowded, very quickly. When I reported aboard though, most everyone was gone. We were on holiday stand-down, so that meant that the only people on the ship at any give time were people on duty. Not to mention they had just come back from a 6 month deployment, so most everyone was as far away from ship as they could be. Living arrangements on the ship were cozy to say the least. In my rack, I literally had about 6 inches of room between myself, and the bunk above me. And cold. My god it was fuh-reezing. I came home of course, bewteen the end of Dec and Jan. When I got back to California, most of the crew had already returned and life aboard the THACH got back to normal.
I think thats a good start for now. I could keep going, but that would make for way too long of a post in my opinion. Later
