So, my new OS is giving me problems. They're little things in the long run, but they're annoying as fuck to attempt to fix.
I used to have a regular version of XP on my old computer. My computer's hard drive was getting old. I had it for almost 3 years. Talked to my roommate Justin and my buddy Andrew. Andrew agrees to swap his computer for mine and Justin agrees to install his new hard drive into the new one I'm getting. He gives me a hard drive with Windows Black on it. Dunno exactly what Black is and how it differs from Vista and XP; all I know is that it looks more sleek than XP. Cool. Whatever.
I later found that everything else works fine on my new PC except for three things:
- Whenever I opened Word files, the default color of the font is this ugly Teal color and whenever I tried to change it to Black in Word and reopened the file, it changed it back to Teal again. With Weston's help, I was able to change the font color in my individual files to black and get it to stay that way after closing out Word and logging back in again, but the default font in the Word font color choices is still Teal. Also, whenever I go on the internet and type anything into a search engine, the font is Teal-colored.
- I loves my wallpaper. So I put one pic on there in a black background and restarted my PC. I quickly found out that whenever I restart, it always takes whatever wallpaper I put out and replaces it with a blank, blue background color instead. I save a theme onto the desktop so I can simply click on it to change stuff back to normal whenever I restart instead of going into the system options and manually changing it all over again.
After some time has passed, Windows Update detects that I don't have a legit version of Windows Black and completely takes over the PC. After about every hour no matter what wallpaper I have, it always switches it to a black background and keeps saying in the lower right-hand corner: "Hey, you have a bad version of Windows that's been COPIED! Blah, blah, blah..."
- Finally, the biggest problem I have with it is the compatability with my Zen Vision: M. I've had my mp3 player for two years, no problems whatsoever. I take real good care of it. On my old PC, I could plug it in to charge, sift through it and move music around to my heart's content. When I first plugged it into the new PC, the PC had trouble recognizing the MTP software on the Zen. It would recognize that something was plugged into it, but would always time out and say that it couldn't get the hardware out of the Zen. It wouldn't even let my Zen charge. After getting Justin on it, he partially tricked the PC into recognizing part of my Zen's software where it'll at least let my Zen charge now, but I can't log onto my Zen to move/delete music. I've tried reinstalling the software on the discs that the Zen came with. I've tried reinstalling MediaPlayer twice. I've tried several tricks that I could find from forums on the net. I just CAN'T get into it. I'm going to try calling Creative for some more support, but I'm somewhat afraid they'll tell me to do all the crap I just did all over again.
I know it's definitely the case with the font and the wallpaper, but after the incidents with the Zen, I'm thoroughly convinced it's the OS being a bastard (especially since Windows Update constantly tells me every day that it knows it's an illegitimate version). Justin says he can give me something that stops the background from changing, but not a new OS to install on the hard drive. After all this crap, I just want to wipe everything off the hard drive, get a new OS (preferably regular XP again) and reinstall everything.
Help?
Also on an unrelated note, I just saw Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for the first time and it vaguely reminded me of every A-Cen/Reactor I've ever been to.
