The month of November has treated me pretty okay this year.
Just over two weeks ago I found myself in Chicago for Windycon for the third year in a row. The con itself was awesome, the drive there and back less so. It took 9 hours each way for what typically takes 5.5 (to Chicago it was because I was dealing with work-related tomfoolery en route, to Minneapolis it was mainly because of weather and other delays), which was sucky and awful and put me in a terrible mood on both Friday and Saturday nights. But it was still worth it to enjoy catching up with friends, making lots of music (and even selling a few CDs), and consuming copious amounts of beer.
dayzdark had William to himself back in Minneapolis all weekend and by all accounts the two of them had a great time together. I definitely missed them both while I was away, but it was also great to get some adult time to recharge my batteries.
Speaking of William, since his brief and scary hospital stay he has been doing fantastically well. He turned 9 months last weekend, and is hitting milestones left and right - has been crawling for about a month and can transition easily between sitting and crawling, can stand holding on to things, and is working really hard on pulling himself up to standing. Last weekend was his first Thanksgiving, which he spent with me in Wisconsin eating huge amounts of mashed potatoes and charming the pants off all of my relatives. A less fun milestone is his recent acquisition of five teeth (with a sixth in waiting) which has led to hideously disrupted sleep for several weeks now. I'm surviving with the aid of lots of caffeine and hoping the emergence of tooth #6 will bring at least a short reprieve when it gets around to coming out.
Finally, a bit of audience participation: It looks like we're actually going to get our act together to send out a holiday card this year. If you'd like a festive card with a cute picture of babby on it, comment with your mailing address (all comments are screened) or email it to me at belovedporcupine at gmail dot com and I will be happy to send one out to you.
I hope your Thanksgiving was an enjoyable one, if you celebrated it. This year I have certainly had a lot to be thankful for.
