Today may have been my last day at work pre-maternity leave. Tomorrow is my due date, which I'm taking off due to an inconveniently timed midwife appointment in the middle of the day regardless of whether anything is happening in the baby expulsion department or not. I might do a little work from home though. I say that today may have been the last day because if nothing has happened by Monday, I'll be going back to work again, since there's no sense in sitting around home wasting my leave time while I wait for something to happen and I'd rather be working to keep my mind off of things.
We're really, really hoping that I have the baby sometime this weekend. It would be really ideal from a logistical standpoint, allowing for maximally rested parents, a minimum of disruption to things at our workplaces as we both go on leave (me for 12 weeks,
dayzdark for 6), and the oldest possible baby being present at MarsCon. I've begun to experience a number of the traditional "you'll be in labor soon" signs, which is encouraging to say the least. I'm also starting to implement a variety of natural strategies that purportedly encourage labor; we'll see if any of them work. One such strategy, if I am not yet in labor tomorrow evening, is going to involve eating ridiculously spicy Thai food with
tele, so if you are local to me and want to get in on that, let me know. Otherwise, if you are a praying or energy-sending type of person, please send your intentions that I would have the baby soon, preferably on Saturday which would be the ideal day. (Yeah, I know they pretty much make up their own minds about this stuff, and I'd rather go overdue than be medically induced unless it's absolutely necessary, but I figure it doesn't hurt to try.)
I still don't know that I am genuinely ready to have a baby, but I am prepared, if that makes any sense. Pretty much everything has been crossed off my to-do list and I'm just trying to stay calm and hold a welcoming space for babby so that they know it's safe to come out and meet us. Due to not leaving myself a huge amount of tasks for the last minute, finding things to distract me and keep my mind occupied has been of paramount importance. I have been achieving this mostly through copious amounts of board games, and by poopsocking my way through equally copious amounts of episodes of Fringe with Noel. Holy crap but Fringe is a fantastic show. We've just begun the third season and I am loving
the parallel universe stuff and the "one episode in this universe and another in that" strategy and the whole premise of Olivia and Fauxlivia switching places. Anything that Walter ever says or does is also a highlight for me, particularly if it involves drugs and/or the cow in the lab. Now between this and Game of Thrones I have really two good scripted dramas to keep up with, which is something I've missed having for a long time now.
That reminds me that I still mean to post about Game of Thrones and the other stuff I've been watching but who knows when I will get around to that now. Oh well.
