No Brand Con last weekend was a great time. It was just me, Elizabeth, and her friend Sarah (who was very talented and cool) for most of the con, but
tele and
the_bugglewump came up on Sunday for our official show. We played a ton of music, sold some CDs, saw some awesome costumes, caught up with fans we don't see very often, and generally had a good and silly time. One of the highlights of the con for all of us was putting together a three-part-harmony, violin/guitar/pennywhistle mash-up of Pachelbel's "Canon" and Rebecca Black's "Friday" and performing it to the general amusement of the con both while busking and at the variety show on Sunday. When we were done and came off stage, a guy said to me, "That was very impressive but incredibly uncalled for," which pretty much sums it up. (c: Non-musically, one of the more memorable moments of the con was seeing a marriage proposal occur during the cosplay contest (she said yes!). I had a great weekend attending the con and seeing my family, bonding with Elizabeth, and getting to know Sarah.
Unfortunately, No Brand Con and DemiCon appear to fall on the same weekend next year, so I will have to choose between them. )c: Oh well, 2012 is a long way off so I have some time to weigh pros and cons and make up my mind.
Speaking of DemiCon: I am very pleased to let you all know that
Candles Enough, better known as the dynamic duo of
mendeia and
christhawk, will be performing at DemiCon for the first time this year! Thanks to
ericcoleman and
ka_klick for making that happen on such short notice. If you have not heard Candles Enough and you will be at DemiCon, I would strongly recommend that you attend their show because I think you will be blown away.
the_bugglewump will also be joining us at the con, and I may get a chance to play yet another show that weekend with Elizabeth, so it sounds like another very musical weekend full of fun times with friends is ahead of me.
In the weekend that intervenes between these two cons, I will be attending yet ANOTHER con, Minicon, though I will not be performing there in any venue except the music circle. What I will be doing is participating in the following panels:
Malazan Book of the Fallen Recap - 2:30 PM Saturday - Veranda 2
The tenth and final volume of Steven Erikson's epic, Dark Fantasy was just released on March 1, 2011. The Malazan books are almost thirty years in the making, and more than a decade after the publication of the first in the series. These books take place in a world originally created with Ian Cameron Esslemont as the surroundings for D&D and GURPS roleplaying campaigns. What are some thoughts on this final installment, and on the series as a whole? What about the Ian Cameron Esslemont's Novels of the Malazan Empire?
BSG Board Game - 5:30PM Saturday Veranda 2
The Battlestar Galactica Board Game. What's it all about?
There may also be a third panel added to this, but that depends on the topic getting expanded/modified to being something that I'm actually able to contribute intelligently to (the subject appears to have changed since I originally volunteered). Regardless, I'll at least be at the Sheraton for most of Saturday hanging out, so catch up with me if you are there!
