Movie recommendation for people who like horror:
Let The Right One In. Vampires, Sweden, tons of atmosphere, very slow-moving plot but that's kind of enjoyable in movies occasionally too. There were some parts that were more than a little silly (I full-on laughed at attack cats omg!) but I appreciated that the filmmakers understood that horror is not just a bunch of jump scares, but building tension punctuated by intense images as pay-off. And before anybody else sees this and calls me on it, I don't only like it because it's a human/vampire love story either. (c;
I'm starting to think that America has altogether forgotten how to make horror movies (which are a different thing from torture porn and PG-13 remakes of J-horror and K-horror, of which there are plenty, and basically all of which are bad). (Side note to
peloria and
tankmancr: did you guys see that there was a US remake of A Tale Of Two Sisters? I didn't see it because I think I would just be disappointed if the remake made any sense.) All the really good horror movies I've seen in the past couple of years have come out of Europe - [REC] (I freaking LOVED that movie and it makes me really sad that no one else wants to see it!), El orfanato (which was actually more ghost story than horror movie anyway), and now this. The last really great American horror movie I saw was The Descent and that was like 4 years ago now.
Also I need a horror movie watching buddy again. Any volunteers?
