i have to say i'm surprised. surprised and angry that we seem to be in the minority here. I agree with you that Cain is a cautionary tale about how Adama and the Galactica could have gone without the civilians and Roslin acting as a counterweight. The Galactica representing the military defending the civilian population and given a direction in doing so. While the Pegasus representing overt aggression for no reason but to assault a foe. The Galactica could have easily been in the same position, and it wouldn't surprise me if a few other battlestars or military camps exist doing the same thing the Cylons hunting them down bit by bit as their humanity is sold away in the desperate attempt to wage an unwinable war.
Wish I could have been there to back you up because i agree with you in full. I am also getting sick of the female villains always doing the same thing, temptress evil sexy seducer... it works for Six oddly because of some different factors... she has an odd nuance to it all... and that is what makes Cain so interesting. She as you said above does not pull that she comes out with aggression and her brain and ability to command. She is dangerous for a host of reasons.
I dont like Cain but you're not supposed to. She's a woman who has given up her own humanity in many ways, for good or bad reasons we can argue about until the cows come home but in the end she has in my opinion. But a man could do the same thing and yes you're right might even be sympathized with. Hell as a real world example there are people in Russia who are starting to applaud Stalin for his actions... I doubt Indra Ghandi will get the same shake and she didn't pull NEARLY the same level of crap he did.
and yeah i agree with your thesis too and its ANNOYING as hell....
man i hadn't thought about mirror-verse star trek in a long time... really wish those DVDs were like $40 cheaper.
