For the benefit of those of you who have been living under a rock, Robert Jordan died yesterday. I didn't particularly care for his most recent books, but for better or worse the Wheel of Time was one of the things that made me the geek I am today. My plan was to re-read the whole series when it was finished, and who knows whether I'll get to do that now. He seemed like a decent guy, so my sympathies go out to his family.
On a more personal note, I have a show tomorrow night at the Loring Pasta Bar; doors at 5:30 and I go on at 9. I'll be heading over there around 5:30 or 6ish to eat dinner and hear the other bands before me, so let me know if you want to ride along. I even heard a rumor that
ruben_shay may be showing up, so let that be your incentive to come out, if nothing else.
And now, because it's Monday, a song that I wrote. I definitely like the way that this one came out; hope you do too.
No Dividing Line - new original song, right click to download!
(voice, acoustic guitar, mandolin)
end of the summer in a city that's cold
all the freeways paved with fool's gold
I packed all my things & I'm going on down
five miles outside of this northern town
gonna pull up a bar stool sing a couple songs
won't mind one bit if you sing along
cause here with people who are nothing like me
is the warmest place I know how to be
(chorus)
singing "hey now come & bring your friends
so they'll be ours too before the party ends
if you're a little bit crazy or a little bit queer
well that's okay, it don't matter round here"
so if you don't mind gonna spend my time
where there's no red no blue no dividing line
where we all drink together & we all stand tall
where we're not so different after all
up on the stage drink & mic in my hand
I'm the new lead singer in an empty band
& out in the crowd I see military men
& cowboys, housewives, Republicans
everybody's got stories weighted down with care
by their third beer everybody shares
but would we be friends past the walls of this place
or just another hurdle in the human race?
(chorus)
last call shouted & the last song sung
as the lights go down hugging everyone
so thank you for coming & hearing my tunes
I'm sorry I can't say if I'll be back soon
but if I had the money & if I had the power
I'd take those men out of their ivory tower
& say "here are the humans you have labeled as wrong
shooting pool & drinking, singing country songs"
(chorus)
