Note to self:
When participating in an expedition to force the Northwest Passage and frozen in pack ice above the Arctic Circle, with food that gives you lead poisoning and an unspeakable horror stalking your crew, under no circumstances should you try to take your mind off your troubles by throwing a party in which you re-enact "The Masque of the Red Death". Srsly.
In other words, I would highly recommend the book The Terror by Dan Simmons (thanks for the gift, kleenestar) to just about anyone here with a passing interest in horror fiction, British naval history, or just a damn good story. It's Patrick O'Brian meets H.P. Lovecraft. Quality stuff.
