The below took me 5 mins to search for in google. These are just a small fragment of the many studies and research that conclude that playing video games are not bad for you. There are plenty more out there maybe we should try to find as many as possible and post them all here ( ... )

After playing a game called Age of Mythology, Gee says, kids (like his 8-year-old son) often start checking out mythology books from the library or join Internet chat groups about mythological characters. History can come alive to a player participating in the game.

I have played video games since I was about 3 or 4 years old (I'm 17 until Feb.). My biggest inspiration to learn how to read was so I could play the original Final Fantasy without the help of my father. I was so happy when I beat the game without his help. Video games inspired me to read, and inspires me to learn.

Examples: After playing Age of Mythology, I did a research paper on Norse myth (it passed), after playing Dynasty Warriors 4, I delved into the history of China's Three Kingdoms era. After playing Doom, I began to do research on the mythology of Hell (exciting!).

I hope to continue learning from my video games, and eventually, make video games that people can learn from.

But unfortunately, only one study, the Illinois one, actually focused on aggressive behavior. Whereas nearly all the negative studies focused on behavior, including increased aggression. We need more studies like the Illinois one, to counter the ones the APA is referencing. More studies focused on short & long term effects of prologned exposure to violent video games vs violence in other media, effects due to age (how a child reacts vs adolecent vs teenager), and how education about real vs. media violence affects this.

A while back someone posted a study done in Germany on children only and that was done for a whole year and the study showed there was no long-term aggression or violent behavior in youths from playing violent video games.
I think Horrorkid posted it.

Yes I agree we do need more research clearly showing that video games and violence are not connected. However you can also think of it like this, some medicines could have negative effects or side effects that can even sometimes cause death, but they still market and produce the medication because in the long run it does more good than bad. You could say the same about Video games - in my opinion even if a small minority of people commit a crime after playing GTA what about the others who are getting positive effects and are benefiting from additional skills learned from these kinds of games.

I will repost this from a previous topic as I think it is relevant:

For all of those who don't know already and for those who may have been persuaded by the APA's recent report on Video Games and Violence. The Swedish National Institute Of Public Health carried out some experiments with Kids and video games earlier this year and this is what they found................................

"the studies give no support for a link between video game playing and aggressive feelings, thoughts or behaviours"

Sorry - that's all I could find. I think they only summarize in English. Have a look through the website I think you can purchase the report but I do not think it is in English.
