However I object to one of these statements: "And, as we all know only too well, once we cease to respect the humanity of other people, violence is the natural result."
I ceased to respect humanity of other people almost 15 years ago, I have yet to turn violent. I only pity humanity in its absurd ignorance.

Me too. However, individual humans, I have been known to take a liking to. What is it about us humans, that we resort to unthinking mobs faster than I can blink?

technically it was a dracula rip off in a couple of the witch's books, Carpe Jugulum and Witch's Abroad (one of my personal favorite.)
After reading most of the discworld (twice) people wonder why i am cynical, or is it i have read most of the discworld books twice because I am cynical?

I'm really fond of Night Watch, meself. Though the terms "Men in Saffron" and "No Such Monastery" in Thief of Time are hilarious.
And the majority of Pratchett's work isn't cynical (except when viewed through Vimes) - it's kind of gritty humour, realist fantasy. So sue me, I like it.

I prefer my late night snacks to be young nubile, wear night gowns, and have a penchant for leaving windows open..

I've heard cold placenta sandwiches are quite good the following day... ;)
