No, he's an idiot in plenty of other areas, for exmaple, the following about doctors and insurance, if I'm reading it right, is bullshit:
"In addition, Assemblyman Yee is now authoring legislation to end the unfair practice of billing patients instead of insurance companies,"
The problem isn't with the doctors offices, it's with the insurance companies. When a doctors office agrees to take a particular insurance, they're signing a contract that says they'll take that companies rates for reimbursment. The rates are essentially never 100% of what's charged, but doctors do this anyways to bring in patients. And then you consider that Medicare pays something like 30 cents on the dollar, that a lot of HMOs pay worse than that, and that the good ones that pay most or all are few and far between. And then there are the companies that like to argue with the doctor on whether or not a covered service was actually needed.
That leaves the doctors either negoiating contracts that let them bill the patient for the left overs, or just not taking insurance. The problem to be fixed is with the insurance companies, not the doctors. Yet from the line given to us it sounds like they think the problem is with the doctors.
