So I was babbling with pawns over gchat and somehow this most amazing metaphor came up. Also involves slight mini-essay babbling (but not all of it so people don't have to deal with tl;dr badly formatted gchat lines.)
Background info: we were talking about how Yuki is the poster child of pureness in di[e]ce and how that is important to the Kings considering both of them have extremely 'impure' tropes.
Kazuki: ADDITIONALLY note that yuki pretty much represents theearliest 'pure' stage kazuki had, before he descended into true sociopathy
Yuki: not where I wanted the bold to go gchat
Yuki is a big bundle of issues for Kazuki, isn't he
Kazuki: yeeep
Yuki: he's becoming less pure and he can't be fixed
Yuki would mope off if he knew that was how his role was. he's already upset about it as he perceives it but. it would like I became this way to help you!! but you don't want it :( I made things worse :( no wonder you don't love me as much anymore I 'm sorry :(
Kazuki: ......./smack
NO YUKI WAS PURE UNTIL THE END FOR KAZUKI!!
because he always did his things with the purest of interest and intent
and never liked it
Yuki: gosh with the purity and intent thing, his little dream visit to Kazuki is like a perfect example
Kazuki: yeeeep
purity is a BIG TROPE in Japan, ngl
and yuki is like the poster child
Yuki: sob
Kazuki: /pets
BUT YEAH I'D KEEP THAT IN MIND WHEN YOU PLAY HIM? like there's nothing wrong with him starting to struggle with his purity
but I'm pretty sure that like ruka it is/was an integral part of his character?
and ruka became so unpure because he went through a 'break the cutire' moment and didn't.. survive it, mentally
and even then, purity shone through at the last minute with ruka!
Yuki: I DO. I didn't have the terminology and contrast to Ruka in my head, but I try to keep Yuki to a base of being the one that doesn't like killing, the one that still believes and hopes that they can go back to being a trio of bffls. the skittish nice one.
but he is out of his depth and he knows it
Kazuki: :|b
YEAH UH like I was saying to Ruka, Kazuki knows it too
because Yuki has... never been really able to HANDLE both of the Kings' impurities
as much as he tried
but that's also why he is so important to the kings, because he is their stability of purity and he TRIES
Yuki: he's been kind of trying to match and sort out his new stuff vs. older morals, though! like he's become more open about liking to fight. he knows he's good at it and he enjoys it, and he knows it's good for him to have something he can be confident in- and he doesn't necessarily have to use it to kill! it can just be a sport. he's taking something he saw as bad and is mashing it back towards purity.
but sob yes he cannot handle the kings' issues
Kazuki: /pets...
YEAH IT'S LIKE... okay it's true haruki and kazuki could theoretically work JUST FINE on their own?
but the constant dynamic and power imbalance would be crazy if yuki wasn't around
Yuki: yeah see Yuki doesn't percieve that. he knows there's a dynamic when they're all three together and palling around, but he's not able to stretch that out into be actually influential.
so he'll continue to cling to the kings and be friendly because we are friends!! but every time Haruki threatens Yuki's friends, Yuki takes that as a sign that he's not making a difference
because. Haruki doesn't do that to Kazuki!
when Haruki gets better, it's because of Kazuki
thiiiiiiiiiiiiird wheeeeeeel
TRICYCLES ARE AWESOME AND FUN
BUT YOU COULD RIDE A BICYCLE JUST FINE
Kazuki: :(
BICYCLES ARE MORE HARD TO MANAGE THAN A TRICYCLE
IF WE'RE GOING TO USE THAT METAPHOR
Yuki: GET TRAINING WHEELS
wherein TRAINING WHEELS = OTHER PLAYERS
learn to cope without me!!
REPLACE ME
Kazuki: but we still have a nostalgic love for the tricycle IN MY HEART
also in that case
by the end
kazuki is riding a unicycle off into the sunset
Yuki: well if you look at all of his friends' issues
yes
you will ditch the training wheels for the bike and then you'll ditch the bike
this is all of the wheels' belief
Kazuki: fdshhxfg
ALL THE CYCLES
