Take a look around you...

Hi.

I know I haven't posted in ages, but I've been sick and thus unable to attend my games meetings and thus I haven't had anything to comment upon... until now.

Look, I know how exciting it is to become recruited into an active games company (regardless of what size). Trust me- I was there. I came in when all they had was this general idea that it would be cool to make a game about something particular, so there was a lot of room for me to throw ideas about.

But for God's sake- take a step back and just WAIT. Ask questions, find out what's happening so far. Don't take control like the whole thing is your idea. Fresh ideas are good, but don't get on a horse and ride it assuming that the team even wanted to get a horse. A donkey or camel may seem more unlikely to you, but maybe the team wants to do something a bit different?

I've experienced a couple of people come into the mix and forge ahead assuming that if things haven't been finalised, it's because no one has had any ideas. This is usually not the case- it tends to be that there are too many ideas, but there is no "lead" who wants to take responsibility or dictate the final choice.

Take it easy, come in slow. Let your feet touch the ground before you start running.
