Dream's Office Hours, 3/22

Mar 22, 2006 12:29

The professor is in. He appears to be modifying a map that looks very old, and isn't written in a human alphabet.

[OOC: Heading home to deal with family stuff. On SP at least some of the time until 4, gone from then until 8 or 9, and then back with a vengeance.]

Elizabeth knocked on the door.

Dream rose from his chair and opened the door. "Miss Weir, hello. We are to begin Arabic today, are we not?"

"Yes, sir," Elizabeth said with a smile.

"I suppose we should begin with the alphabet," Dream said, giving ELizabeth a handout. "Does this make sense?"

"About as much sense as the Farsi alphabet made to me when I first saw it," Elizabeth grinned, looking down at the handout. She looked at it again, more seriously.

"It is logical, in its way," Dream said, almost apologetically, and then went on discussing Arabic spelling and pronunciation with Elizabeth for some handwavy because, ZOMG, do I not speak Arabic time. "But it is hard for English-speakers to learn."

Elizabeth nodded. "I'm sure. Just give me a few days to get the logic myself, and I'll be much happier."

She listened intently to him, noting down a few points.

"For next week, please research an Arabic poet, so that you will learn of the literature at the same time as the language," Dream said in conclusion.

Elizabeth nodded, scribbling the assignment down in her notebook. "Yes, sir," she said. "See you tomorrow."
