So I just had, by far, the coolest and weirdest first day of work I could imagine. A quick update, for those who don't know, I now act as a Game Master for Disney's online MMO's: Toon Town, Pixie Hollow, Cars, and Pirates of the Caribbean online.
The day opened up by our boss explaining to us that part of our job would be to filter usernames that were trying to be sneakily sexual, and report them. She then showed us an SNL clip with a college graduation where everyone had sexual sounding names. She then discussed a few cases they had encountered. (Alpha Kenny One) Apparently the really good names get forwarded around the office for admiration before being put on the ban list.
Then, she explained that another part of our job would be to look through flagged chat and decide whether something was inappropriate ("I'll kill him" in Pixie Hollow, where there are no enemies) or just sounded inappropriate, but was ok in context. ("I'll kill him" in Pirates of the Caribbean, where they're probably talking about an enemy) She then went on to explain that the majority of the flagged chat we'd be looking over would be cyber sex...seriously. Cyber sex on a Disney online game. What the fuck? How sick do you have to be to think that Disney online games are the place to pick up chicks? Anywho, that was weird.
The next step was to make avatars in Pixie Hollow and Cars. You name your person by selecting a name from their approved first name list, middle name list, and last name list. Doing this gives you cute names like Flutter Lightning Blossom. However, this was not what we were asked to do. We were asked to take as much time as we wanted to try and make the dirtiest name possible, so the company would know which combinations to look out for. My fairy's name was Flix Purple Horn. My friend's was Tangy Plum Blossom. We then make our Car's avatar...and same deal with the name. My car's name is Milo Front Solid. My friend's was Purple Stick Shift. I think all in all, they just need to get rid of the option to put Purple as anything. This was shown again today when we made our Toon Town avatars and my Fat Drippy Purple Noodle was allowed through.
After this long day of work, our boss decided that to properly understand the lore that Pixie Hollow was based on, we'd need to see the source...so we spent the last two hours watching the Tinkerbell movie...
I got paid over $100 to do this today...
