Book Screw Up

Some weeks back, a blogger I follow recommended Far From the Tree. It's a collection of true stories about parents of children with disabilities. I was jazzed about it and stuck it on my wish list, waiting for the time when I had some other books to buy and could take advantage of Amazon's free shipping for orders of $25 or more. Recently, I had that opportunity. Today, my book arrived. I took it with me to my son's therapy appointment and settled into the couch for an hour of reading Far From the Tree. If you follow that second link, you will discover it is a different book than the first one, even though they have the same title. Yes, I accidentally bought the wrong book! I spent my hour slogging through the first part of a fiction story of two antagonistic sisters who learn to love one another following their father's death. I'm only 35 pages into it and I already know what everyone looks like, what they're wearing, what they wore to the funeral, and their preferred hairstyle (as well as how frequently they visit the stylist). I have absolutely no interest in the information the author seems to find vital to telling her story.

Well. DD3 was telling me I needed to get outside my genre. While this is written fine, it bores me to tears. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get that book she wanted to read in tandem with me and it will give me an excuse to quit this one.

books, mundane stuff
